ROI Invests in Haiti’s Future by Partnering with The Joseph School
by Gene Wilson
On January 12, 2010, a devastating 7.0 earthquake ravaged Haiti, further overwhelming a country already contending with poverty, inadequate infrastructure, poor healthcare, and lack of education.
Adding to this calamity is Haiti’s orphan crisis, made worse by the earthquake. Haiti is home to more than 300,000 orphans. Many of these orphans receive a primary education at an orphanage; after primary school, however, most children leave the orphanage, trying to live on their own with little education or skills – the cycle of ignorance and poverty continues.
The Joseph School recognizes that education is crucial to the social and economic development of a country, and that secondary education is particularly important.
Working with orphanages already in place, The Joseph School identifies gifted Haitian students and provides them with a secondary education. The Joseph School effectively turns an orphan crisis into a leadership opportunity by developing the orphans of today into Haiti’s leaders of tomorrow.
A grant from RetailROI (made possible by Cisco, Epicor, Epson, and Oracle’s sponsorship of SuperSaturday) has been instrumental in continuing The Joseph School’s efforts to invest in Haiti’s future. Specifically, this grant is being used to purchase property and for building expenses.
Cisco, Epicor, Epson, and Oracle have partnered with RetailROI and The Joseph School by sponsoring SuperSaturday, RetailROI’s premier retail and technology research event. All proceeds from these sponsorships directly benefit organizations dedicated to changing the lives of orphaned and vulnerable children around the world.
By joining forces with RetailROI and The Joseph School, Cisco, Epicor, Epson, and Oracle are empowering the people of Haiti to change their destiny by investing in the future leaders of Haiti – Haiti’s children.
